Installation Guide

Turbocharger Installation Instructions

Air-cooled 1.0 & Oil-Less 3.0 Models

  1. Mounting the Turbocharger
Bolt the turbine housing securely to the exhaust manifold. The connection from the compressor housing to the intake piping must use a flexible coupler to prevent vibration or load transfer.

  2. Mounting Orientation
Since this turbocharger does not require engine oil lubrication, it may be mounted in horizontal or vertical orientations as long as proper clearance and airflow are maintained.

  3. Cooling Requirements (Oil-Less 3.0 Only)
Oil-Less 3.0 units include an integrated water jacket in the bearing housing. They must be connected to the engine’s coolant system for proper thermal management.

  4. Air Filtration & Exhaust Restrictions

    • Air filter pressure drop must not exceed 10" H₂O.

    • Exhaust/muffler restriction should not exceed 1.5" Hg.

    • If no air cleaner is used, install a screen over the compressor inlet to prevent debris from entering and damaging the compressor wheel.

  5. Leak Check
With the engine running and at full operating temperature, inspect all connections, flanges, and coolant lines for any sign of leakage.

  6. Pre-Lubrication / Greasing Intervals
Your turbocharger is pre-greased and ready for installation.

    • Mid-mount setup: Apply 7 pumps of Comp Turbo Grease every 3,000 miles.

    • Engine-mount setup (Oil-Less 3.0): Apply 6 pumps every 2,500 miles.

    • Use only Comp Turbo–authorized high-speed grease.

    • Do NOT remove the Zerk fitting from the turbocharger.

Triplex Ceramic™ Oil 2.0 & 360° Journal Bearing Models

  1. Mounting the Turbocharger
Bolt the turbine housing securely to the exhaust manifold. The compressor discharge connection to the intake system should always use a flexible coupler.

  2. Oil Feed Line Requirements
Oil feed lines must be short to reduce delay in oil supply at startup.

    • CT3B Ball Bearing: Use -3 AN oil feed line.

    • CT360 Journal Bearing: Use -4 AN oil feed line.

    • Oil-Less models do not use oil lines.

  3. Oil Drain Requirements

    • Minimum ¾" inside diameter drain.

    • Must slope continuously downward with no horizontal sections.

    • Avoid sharp bends or uphill routing to prevent oil backup.

  4. Oil Pressure Requirements (CT3B Ball Bearing Only)
Supply the turbo with filtered engine oil at 35–50 psi when at full operating temperature.
Excessive oil pressure may cause turbocharger oil leakage and smoking exhaust.

  5. Air Filtration & Exhaust Restrictions

    • Air cleaner pressure drop must not exceed 10" H₂O.

    • Exhaust/muffler restriction should not exceed 1.5" Hg.

    • If running without an air filter, install a protective screen to prevent debris damage to the compressor wheel.

  6. Leak Check
With the engine at full operating temperature, inspect all oil, water, and exhaust connections for any signs of leakage.
